The Health and Human Services Committee of the Chamber, is excited to have been a part of the HOME Magazine publication. It gives us great pride to know we helped produce the magazine that will enhance the knowledge of the residents of Pike County concerning their health care options in Troy, Pike County and the Wiregrass.
When the idea first came up to work on a health care publication for Troy and Pike County, all I could envision was the old school Physician Directories that have been around forever. You see, before I was in health care administration, I was in nursing. Yes, I am a registered nurse and in the old days before the internet and smart phones, we actually used the physician directories to “look up” physician phone numbers, specialties and their office address. So even though that information is included in our HOME Magazine, we wanted it to include so much more.
The vision we had was to include information about the physicians in our area but in greater detail and with pictures. It seems we live in a visual world, so why not be able to recognize your physician when you meet him or her? And be able to ask them about their training and their specialty. Just be more comfortable during your office visit. After all, the physician has a chart or an I Pad to know your history! Now you know a little more about theirs.
We also wanted to introduce you to some very special people in our community. Some people who have chosen to dedicate their lives to helping others. We call these people “home grown” and we are so very proud to have them return to Troy and Pike County. With the current crisis in rural medicine for many counties in Alabama, what a comfort to know we have these extremely talented young professionals who returned home to take care of neighbors, family and friends. I hope you enjoy getting to know them through their stories here in Home Magazine.
It is my hope that you not only learn more about the health care options that are available to you right here in Troy and the Wiregrass, but you also learn more about the dedicated professionals who care for you and your family. After all, isn’t that what being from the South is all about? Taking care of neighbors and friends who call this area…HOME.
